I completely agree with the protagonist here. Her parent's party isn't about her, sure. But she doesn't have to help, and she certainly doesn't have to come. It's about setting a standard and boundaries with them. It's nothing more than a cause and effect. If they want to be closer with their daughter, then they'll accept her marriage, her love, and her wife. It's 2025, no one cares about that kind of stuff anymore. What is it, 1950?

32-year-old woman cancels parent’s 40th wedding anniversary when they refuse to allow her wife to join, stirring up past tribulations about tradition: “You’re being vindictive”
Welcome back ladies and gentlemen of the internet. Tradition is something that is ingrained in us whether we realize it or not. It's not just having turkey on Thanksgiving, or having Chinese food for dinner on Christmas Eve. Tradition is really about how we live our lives. It's how we perceive the world, and about the world we live in. Tradition could be how we conduct ourselves in job settings versus with friends. It could be legal processes like driving a car, or doing jury duty. It could be how we understand things like religion, politics, or love and relationships. It's a bigger part of our lives than we realize.
When it comes to family, we also all have our family traditions. In my family, there are some special restaurants we always like to go to when we get together. It's tradition that my dad will make steak one night, and one night we'll have to go out and get all-you-can-eat sushi. There are traditions in our families, and we might not even know it's there.
Unfortunately, not everyone's family traditions are accepting or loving. Some people let bigotry and judgement stifle their ability to be good parents. The story below is a situation like that, and you'll have to read everything to know why.
